Friday and Saturday are weekend and the
Government office hour is 09:00 – 16:00 hours; Banking Hours is 10:00 –
16:00 hours. One hour day saving from June 19 - December 31.
Other
holidays are - 21st February, 2009 Sunday (International Language Day);
17th March, 2009 Wednesday (Birth day of Father of Nation); 14th April,
2009 Wednesday (Bangla New Year); 27th May, 2009 Thursday (Buddah
Purnima); 28th July, 2009 (Shab-E-Barat); 15th August, 2009 Sunday
(National Mourn Day); 7th September, 2009 Tuesday (Shab-E-Qader); 10th,
11th & 12th September, 2009 (Friday, Saturday & Sunday (2009 Eid-Ul-Fitre);
17th October, 2009 Sunday (Durga Puza); 16th, 17th & 18th November,
2009 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (Eid-Ul-Azha); 16th December, 2009
Thursday (Independent Day).
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS PROJECT
The
Project is funded by European Community (EC) and the Government of
Bangladesh under Technical Assistance from WIPO. The total cost of the
project in Bangladesh
is estimated at EURO 1,520,000 of which the EC contribution is EURO
1,200,000. The Government of Bangladesh will contribute in-kind
equivalent to EURO 200,000 by providing qualified counterparts, equipment
and premises for the international and national experts and WIPO is
expected to contribute EURO 120,000 in cash.
The
three years project started from July 01, 2007 to strengthen national
capacity to develop and modernize the intellectual property (IP) system
in Bangladesh.
It would assist to meet national development objectives taking to account
the relevant international standards including those in the area of IP
under the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property
Rights (TRIPS Agreement).
The
objective of this project would be (i) Automated Intellectual Property
System based on a legal system compliant with TRIPS obligation, (ii)
Trained manpower and (iii) Increased outreach programme on IP awareness.
INTRODUCING
SERVICE MARKS
THE
TRADEMARKS ACT, 2009.
The Trademarks Act,
2009 has given opportunity to file applications for protection of
Services. Application can be filed for registration of services under
International Classes 35-45.
CLAIM
OF PRIORITY
The
applicants from the member countries of WTO and signatories of Paris
Convention can claim priority under Section 120 of the Trademarks Act,
2009. Priority applications can be filed within six months from the date
of application in member countries. It is necessary to file a certified
copy of the priority application on which the applicant claimed priority
in Bangladesh.
Application filed in Bangladesh
based on priority would be considered from date of priority application.
BANGLADESH TRADEMARKS JOURNAL
The
Authority has released the Trademarks Journal No. 247 and it has expired
the statutory period of 60 days on July 27, 2009 for lodging any opposition
formally.
Oppositions
can be filed within the statutory period of 60 days under Section 18 of
the Trademarks Act, 2009. If it is not possible to file the opposition
within the 60 days time it is possible to extend time by filing
application on Form-55 with prescribed fee. Authority usually accepts
such applications for extension of time.
